The SmartClip appliance by 3M Unitek is a unique self-ligating passive bracket system that utilizes a specially-designed clip in the bracket so that it can hold the archwire in place. This advanced technology will create less friction, which will lead to greater comfort for a patient. Additionally, SmartClip brackets can often reduce treatment time and also the number of adjustments that are typically performed.

Our Thornhill and Mississauga clear braces work the same way as traditional metal braces, only the brackets are made out of a translucent (clear) material. These braces are most popular with adult patients due to their aesthetic appeal. The drawbacks of clear braces are that they’re more fragile and the elastic ties can sometimes discolor between orthodontic visits.

Invisalign utilizes a series of clear aligners that are generated by computer simulation in order to gradually move the teeth. The aligners are practically invisible, which allows for the most discreet orthodontic treatment around. Unfortunately, Invisalign isn’t capable of treating certain orthodontic bite problems so make sure to ask us if you’re a candidate for this revolutionary treatment.

Phase I Early Treatment

In some cases, early interceptive treatment can be performed to help guarantee the success of an orthodontic treatment. Children as young as seven years of age can benefit if their orthodontic problem is a skeletal (jaw) discrepancy and not just a problem with the teeth. Early treatment can be beneficial in treating:

  • Excessive overbites
  • Underbites
  • Openbites
  • Crossbites

Early treatment is relatively simple and its success will typically reduce the complexity and cost of any subsequent orthodontic treatments that may be needed.

Phase II Adult Treatment

Sometimes early treatment will require further orthodontic treatment, which is where Phase II treatment comes into play. This is basically the same as the standard orthodontic treatment for most patients. While patients with skeletal jaw discrepancies will start with early treatment, if there’s no jaw problems present, he or she will start with this phase. Phase II treatment will generally take about 18 to 24 months.
